Medium Is The Message

“The medium is the message” was the phrase used by Marshall McLuhan in his book Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man.  To my understanding the message has two parts that create a whole  picture. The first component is the actual “art” being presented. For example, what colors, shapes, or words being used. The second component would be the outlet these elements are viewed.  The “canvas” they are presented on would be viewed as a piece of art itself.

To my understanding of “the medium is the message”, and my experience in the field of web design, my computer screen would be the medium. The medium can present my art in many sizes; some of those screens can sit on a desk or fit in a pocket.  The content delivered on the web page, would be the “art”.
